Waffles! Savory, gluten free cheddar waffles! The only question to ask is what to put in or on your waffles.
I must admit that waffles have been sorely neglected both in my life and on this blog. I’ve made French Toast (both sweet and savory) and loads of pancakes (since we have those every Sunday and I like to change the flavors up).
But I haven’t made too many waffles. That is about to change.
Up first are these savory, wonderful cheddar waffles.
Above I said, “the only question to ask yourself is what to put in or one your waffles”. Well, I’m pairing these babies with chicken. You’ve heard of Chicken and Waffles before, right? Well, I’m baking my chicken and I’ll be sharing that recipe with your tomorrow. But right now, enjoy the recipe to these fine waffles. You can slather honey butter and syrup right over them. Yum!
Gluten Free Cheddar Waffles
Yields between 4-10 waffles depending on the thickness of each waffle
1 1/2 cups gluten free all-purpose flour (I used Pamela’s)
2 Tablespoons honey
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cups milk of your choice (I used buttermilk)
1/2 cup oil or (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
1 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice or vinegar
2 large eggs
1/2 – 3/4 cup cheddar cheese
Cooking spray, for waffle iron
Heat waffle maker until ready. Spray with cooking spray.
Add scant 1/4 cups filled with batter on the griddle. Set the timer for 4-6 minutes. Remove once cooked.
